The Shuriken maple is thought to be a cross between an Acer palmatum and an Acer japonicum cultivar. ‘Shuriken’ has a jagged edge akin to the Acer japonicums. ‘Shuirken’ gets its name from “throwing star” due to its unique leaf shape. ‘Shuriken’ may reach 12-15 ft in 10 years. The fall color is a mixture of bright oranges and reds.
